Y9 GCSE Options

It is the time of year when Year 9 begin the process of choosing their Options for Key Stage 4. This is the most important stage of your child’s education so far, and we understand that this can be an exciting, but also anxious, time for families.
We are writing to you to explain how this process will work, and the timeline for this to happen. Please rest assured that we are with you every step of the way to answer any questions, to give guidance, and to talk through any problems or confusion that may arise. Everyone at Saltash wants the best for your child, and we will make sure we spend the time with you to get this right.
The timeline for Options is laid out below:
- Tuesday 6th - Thursday 8th January 2026 – assemblies in reading time, outlying the process and the subjects on offer.
- Monday 12th January - Options booklet and presentations shared with Year 9 students, parents and carers.
- Thursday 22nd January - Options Evening & Careers Fair, 6-8pm – Please attend this informative evening to hear about the options process in full detail. There will be a presentation from the Headteacher, as well as subject stalls where you will be able to speak with subject teachers and gain some valuable advice and guidance from staff.
Our Careers Fair will be in the Sports Hall and will include a wide range of stands and will be a great opportunity to make informed decisions about option choices. The evening will include Further and Higher Education providers, as well as large employers such as the Armed Forces, Devon & Cornwall police, Babcock and the NHS. - Thursday 5th February - Parents’ Evening. Details will follow.
- Friday 6th February - the Options form will go live. This is an online form, and you will only be able to complete it once.
- Friday 27th February, 9am - final deadline for submitting Options forms
Once you have had the opportunity to talk with staff and your child about what they wish to study next year, you will be asked to fill in an Options form online. This will go live on Friday 6th February. The deadline for submitting this form is in the week after the February half term – Friday 27th February at 9am.
We trust that this programme of events will give everyone the chance to explore the opportunities open to students. If at any point in the process you feel you need more support with the process, please do not hesitate to contact any of the following members of staff:
