The Careers Fair provides an invaluable opportunity for young people to explore a wide range of future pathways, bringing together an extensive programme of employers, training providers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship organisations from across the South West and beyond. Attendees will be able to speak directly with representatives, ask questions, and gain first-hand insight into career routes, qualifications and progression opportunities.

We are writing to you to explain how this process will work, and the timeline for this to happen. Please rest assured that we are with you every step of the way to answer any questions, to give guidance, and to talk through any problems or confusion that may arise. Everyone at Saltash wants the best for your child, and we will make sure we spend the time with you to get this right.

For over 20 years, the school’s annual ski trip has been a highlight of the calendar and our longest-running adventure. In that time, more than 1,200 students have experienced some of Europe’s best ski destinations, making lifelong memories along the way.

Whilst all of our students have done themselves and the school proud, we would like to acknowledge some particularly impressive results this year.

This year’s results are a fantastic improvement and demonstrate the strength of our Sixth Form provision, with many students achieving top grades and securing places at leading universities, on competitive apprenticeships, and in employment.

Saltash Community School invites students and their parents/carers to an exciting Careers Fair & Options Evening on Thursday, 23rd January 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

This event is designed for students in Years 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 to explore their future opportunities.

When and Where:
Starting Monday, 2nd December, certificates can be collected in person from the School Reception. Please ensure you bring proper identification with you.

The school prides itself on its ‘TEAM’ values, which emphasise nurturing young people, promoting tenacity, and supporting high standards of behaviour in a safe, empathetic environment. With an exciting curriculum and dedicated teachers, Saltash aims to inspire students to achieve their best, both academically and through a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Results demonstrate fantastic school improvement, with the number of grade 9s more than doubling and overall attainment significantly higher than in previous years. This is of course testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, who approached learning and teaching with real commitment, care and enthusiasm.  

Representatives from St Luke’s Hospice visited us to present the certificate, marking a significant achievement for the entire school community.

I wanted to write to you in regard to our PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) Curriculum at Saltash. I am sure that you are aware that RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) became compulsory in all schools in April 2021. We were already teaching many of the topics that have become part of the compulsory content but have adjusted our curriculum and increased delivery time to ensure that we are covering all the necessary content preparing our students to be well-rounded individuals prepared to embrace 21st Century life. Students have one lesson of PSHE per week in Year 8 and in addition cover PSHE content during tutor times through our reading programme, assemblies and PSHE sessions.

The Art Exhibition served as a platform for these talented students to display their remarkable final pieces, capturing the attention and admiration of all who attended. The range of artistic styles, techniques, and subject matters showcased the diverse talents nurtured within our school.

I am writing to provide you with information about our TEAM week, which we are excited to be able to offer to all our students. The students and Performing Arts team have worked tirelessly to bring the production to life, showcasing their talent, dedication, and hard work. The award is a testament to their commitment to excellence and their passion for the performing arts.

This year's quiz was no exception, with students demonstrating an impressive level of knowledge and enthusiasm for literature.

As part of our Personal Development curriculum, we welcomed a passive dog unit to tour our school and help ensure that we remain a drug-free zone. Our positive culture of safeguarding has been recognised by Ofsted, and we are committed to fulfilling our responsibility to support the town's priorities.

We are delighted that the report acknowledges the progress that we have made since the last inspection: ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’, ‘Personal Development’ and the ‘Sixth Form Provision’ were all judged to be Good.

Despite the considerable challenges they faced, we are delighted to see a continued upward trend in our exam results since 2019. Finn Shearman was our top performer with an impressive eight grade 9s and a grade 7. We are especially proud of Harvey Bellis from our Area Resource Base who has secured GCSE grades in English, Maths and Science. Well done both!

The students had the most amazing opportunities and have seen and learned so much. From the colour and bustle of Marrakesh, to the heat of the desert and incredible views of the Atlas Mountains, they have had experiences that will be remembered for a lifetime. They have learned about Eco-Agriculture, Moroccan culture, how to be self-sufficient and manage their own budgets and everything else that comes with travelling!

Our last production was literally just weeks before 'Lockdown 2020' and what a lot we’ve all been through since then! It has been a tradition to do an annual show here at Saltash Community School for many years, so it was very strange to be without it.

An amazing atmosphere, incredible performances and fantastic support for each other. It was the Saltash TEAM in full flow!  

Well done and thank you to everyone, staff and students who played a role on the day. It was one to remember. 

Students have had to commit to these three sections of the award for 3 – 6 months. The final section of the Bronze Award is the expedition. Our students spent a number of Friday afternoons with Mr Feldwick and the DofE TEAM working on their map skills and planning their route as well as what they needed for the two day and one night expedition.

We were both invited to this event due to the nomination Mrs Gallie kindly made, highlighting our leadership skills as part of the Saltash Student Leadership Team and the impact we have had on Saltash Community School as former Head Students. Within the process of choosing the guests to the Garden Party, many nominations were sent in and Leon and I were lucky enough to be successful.
