Past Students getting in touch!
Dear Mr.Garland,
My name is Michael (Mike) Brewer and I attended the old Saltash Grammar School at Cross Park from 1950 to 1957. I found the Saltash.net website while being nostalgic on this hot and humid Florida afternoon. Having read all the emails in the past students section it brought on more nostalgia.
Many are from the "younger" generations but I did find one earlier than my group, but we did attend at the same time,(Robert Verrando also now lives in Florida and I will try to locate him)and two from my internship period. Bill Matthews and I played on the school football, hockey and cricket teams together. I would also like to hear from Priscilla Shaw (Truscott) who wrote on 2001 but had no contact information. I can be contacted at bosunjrt@tampabay.rr.com if anyone sees this.
In 1957 I was captain of the Pendennis team who won the sports trophy that year with a little help from my winning the Victor Ludorum Cup. I still have three pieces of furniture I made in woodworking for my parents, under the watchful eye of Mr.Henderson, along with the books I won as the woodworking award three years in a row.
I left Saltash in 1957 to join an aviation company, Smiths, in Cheltenham and finally retired from that company two years ago, after 49 years travelling all over the world. It has been an interesting experience with aviation development over those yearsgoing from Spitfires to Spaceships.
Most of that time I was involved in customer support, training and trouble shooting aircraft systems.
I still have an active interest in woodworking and in recent years learnt to play the bagpipes and now play with two different pipe and drum bands here in Florida.
I note the last entries on this site are in 2004 so do not know if this is still an active site, if not the email will probably be returned to me.
Hoping to hear from you or someone from the past.
Mike Brewer
