MATILDA JR - OUR MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS ARE BACK!

We were so pleased to welcome everyone back into the Main Hall for our production of Matilda Jr.

Our last production was literally just weeks before 'Lockdown 2020' and what a lot we’ve all been through since then! It has been a tradition to do an annual show here at Saltash Community School for many years, so it was very strange to be without it.

Practical work was not possible during Covid restrictions and this had a huge impact on our young people. We noticed a drop in confidence, a rise in anxiety and a lack of life skills such as resilience and group work. This is why it was such a joy to watch them perform or take pack backstage during show week.

We were also lucky enough to welcome back some ex-students, Matthew Pascoe, Isobel Whittam and Louise Venn who now work for Nub Sound and are supporting us with show tech, and Emily Lambert who is training to be a teacher and supported with directing/backstage. This alone demonstrates how our productions create so many future opportunities and a life-long love of the Performing Arts.

This year our students have made us incredibly proud, when you think of all our young have had to deal with over the past couple of years, taking part in Matilda Jr has enabled them to be pushed out of their comfort zones, demonstrate resilience in rehearsals and show the commitment and teamwork that will stand them well in their future endeavours and throughout life.

I feel very lucky to work with these fantastic young people and can’t wait for the next event. Keep your eyes peeled for our `Live Sessions` Concert just before October half-term. Thank you to all the parents, staff and members of the community that supported the production, have wonderful summer.
